Spring 2009 Programme

February sees the launch of the GWL Spring 2009 Lifelong Learning Programme. The programme includes a range of events celebrating International Women’s Day in March. There are also writers evenings, book launches, history walks, creative writing and more…

Twinset Launch Night

Writers Dilys Rose and Karen Knight have collaborated with artists Laurie Hastings and Polly Thewall on the poetry book “Twinset” which will be launched at Glasgow Women’s Library this February.

Follow the Thread

The first of 3 storytelling workshops being held at Glasgow Women’s Library to help celebrate International Women’s Day. Join storytellers Lesley and Mags in this workshop which will also involve your creative skills.
Monday 2nd March, 7:00pm

The Spirit of the Story

The second of 3 storytelling workshops being held at Glasgow Women’s Library to help celebrate International Women’s Day. Join storytellers Wendy and Jean in this workshop which will also involve your creative skills to make your own book.
Monday 9th March, 10:30am

Once Upon a Dancing Tale

The final storytelling workshop running in partnership with the Village Storytelling centre being held at Glasgow Women’s Library to help celebrate International Women’s Day. Join storyteller Jean and dancer Rosina in this workshop which will inspire you to put on those dancing shoes.

Women of the Merchant City History Walk: Launch Event

Uncover the Merchant City ’s hidden history during this walk around Glasgow ’s cosmopolitan hub. Join Glasgow Women’s Library tour guides to discover the female stars that stud the fabric of this famous quarter. Scandal, vice, radicalism, regeneration and revival are topics highlighted by this original tour.

Glasgow’s Women and the Abolition Movement Walk

Learn about the contributions of local women and families in the abolition movement and find out the history behind some of Glasgow ’s familiar buildings on this walking tour as part of the Women Make History Spring Walks and Talks programme.

West End Women’s Heritage Walk

This popular tour returns to reveal a hidden history of the marvellous women of the West End of Glasgow. Part of the Women Make History Spring Walks and Talks programme.
Sunday 22nd March, 2:00pm. Tickets £6.50

Glasgow’s Women and the Necropolis

The first trial run of a walk based in the Glasgow Necropolis, this walk is free and we would really appreciate any feedback you can give us for developing this walk further.

Women Writers Unite: Women and Animals

To mark International Women’s Day we’re holding the first in a series of writer’s evenings. Creativity will be unleashed as Zoë Strachan and Elizabeth Reeder introduce writers to give readings of their work on the theme of Women and Animals. Including readings from published author Mandy Haggith as well as new writers from the postgraduate creative writing programme at Glasgow University. So come along and be inspired by the wonderful work of these women writers.

Following the successful run of taster workshops held by GWL in Autumn 2008 we have partnered again with Anniesland College to provide the following courses:

Creative Writing

A 10-week creative writing course running weekly on a Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm. This course will provide an introduction to creative writing and help you progress your skills through writing, reading and discussion in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Starts Tuesday 21st April 2009, 1pm to 3pm

Digital Photography

Join this 10-week digital photography course running on a Thursday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm to learn the basics in using a digital camera. You will get to go out and about taking pictures and then learn how to download, edit and use your images in a variety of ways.
Starts Thursday 23rd April 2009, 1pm to 3pm

i have just been on the website thinks its fantastic idea i know lots of women who are looking for something to do at the weekend as the nest is empty now and its time for us women to enjoy such a walk as you are offering

i am so looking forward to my first walk at the necropolis and hope to meet new friends alike
