INVERNESS/HIGHLANDS
Making the Most of your Women’s Library: In partnership with WEA women@work, GWL hosted sessions in Lochaber and Inverness to introduce local women to the Women’s Library.
In December 2009, GWL hosted “Women’s Work in the Highlands – Looking Back with Pride” at the new Highland Archive Centre, in partnership with WEA women@work. We delivered a talk entitled “Towards a Women’s Library of Scotland”, and held workshops on Oral Histories and Mapping Local Women’s Histories.
DUNDEE
“She Settles in the Shields”: We travelled to Dundee International Women’s Centre in March 2010 with our mobile exhibition – a celebratory documentation of the lives of migrant women in Glasgow’s Southside. After viewing and discussing the exhibition, women from DIWC organised a Women’s History Bring & Tell session to share their own stories.
WIGTOWN
Women’s History Walking Tours: GWL was involved in the launch event of the Wigtown Women’s History Walk in March 2010, hosted by Wigtown Women’s Trail Group. In July 2010, we ran a workshop entitled “Mapping Her-Stories” at Wigtown Community Festival.
RENFREWSHIRE
In partnership with Renfrewshire Libraries, GWL has been working with a girls group in Glenburn, Paisley. The girls have been developing their confidence and skills with creative writing and outdoor activities in the local country park. They are developing poetry for a group performance in autumn 2010.
ABERDEEN
Mapping Women’s History: GWL is working with women from North-East Scotland, recording their memories of their involvements with second-wave feminism. We will also be requesting donations for a new archive collection in Aberdeen, which will form part of an International Women’s Day exhibition in 2010.
CLYDEBANK
Recording Living Heroines: GWL has been working with women at WEA Clydebank. We have been researching women’s history in Clydebank, and recording oral histories with the help of students from Glasgow University. A course in researching women’s history, organised by the GWL in partnership with Glasgow University, will be starting in Clydebank in October 2010.
