GWL Recommends

Have you ever stood in front of a row of books in a library or bookshop, and just not known where to start? Have you ever read a great book or poem and wanted to shout about it from the rooftops?

If the answer is yes to either of these questions, then ‘GWL recommends’ could be just the thing for you!

We’re encouraging women to share their love of reading with each other. By posting these recommendations online, we hope to inspire each other to try new authors and collectively expand our horizons.

To share your favourite book or poem by women authors, all you need to do is write a brief recommendation explaining why you loved it and why you would recommend it. You can recommend fiction, non-fiction, poetry (or a single poem), photography, anything you fancy really, as long as it’s written by a woman.

The Twilight Time

Val recommends:
The twilight time by Karen Campbell

It’s a story about policewomen and prostitution in Glasgow – two different sets of women in uniform, trying to live the best way they can.  Every character is realistic, it’s beautifully written, pacy, sharp, funny and I’ve never read such a funny and furious description of the shock of motherhood!
