Revealing the hidden history of British lesbian women.
This caricature comes from the Comics section in the archive. The comic it comes from was known as 'Sour Cream' and was honest with its audience when it promised to publish, not monthly or weekly, but "Very Irregularly".
Many of the ideas and acceptable structures of society were lambasted in small, self-funded fanzines that may have lasted for only a small period of time before the authors ran out of money, moved on to other things or more likely, became too busy.
The collection of fanzines, comics and amateur lesbian and feminist publications held in the LAIC reflect a period through mainly the 70's and 80's where women, feeling that their voices were not being heard in either the gay or straight media, created their own forums. Everything that had been censored in the media - artificial insemination by donor (AID), politics, feminism, social stereotypes and women's sexuality as a whole - was discussed, debated and explored.
