Lifelong Learning
In addition to the work of the Library’s dedicated Adult Literacy & Numeracy and Black & Minority Ethnic Women’s projects, the Library offers a rich, diverse programme of activities, events and courses for women of all backgrounds. There are currently two key themes around which many of these activities are planned: Living Histories and Active Citizenship.
Living Histories is the theme for a variety of learning opportunities at GWL. For example, Women Make History is a popular informal group of learners who are involved in researching and delivering women’s heritage walking tours in Glasgow.
The WMH group hosts regular talks, visits and training by partners who can share information on women and history in Scotland and beyond, record the testimonies of Living Heroines, and are currently developing a DVD on how to become a women’s history tour guide.
Active Citizenship: This is a theme for activities, events and projects that encourage and inspire women to get active, get involved and have their say.
Our Active Citizenship programme has included the ‘Count Me In’ pre-election learning programme where we connected women with information on the local and Scottish Government including a Library hustings event, information on how to vote and related activities.
We are also committed to women developing their confidence, broadening their horizons, volunteering and becoming more active in their communities and this is reflected in our ongoing Lifelong Learning programmes.
Check out our events list for upcoming activities and/or sign up to our Lifelong Learning mailing list.
