Help with Reading, Writing & Numbers

Do you want to improve your:

  • Writing?
  • Reading?
  • Spelling?
  • Numbers?

The Library can offer you or someone you know support and help. Call (0141) 248 9969 and talk to one of our tutors.

Who we help:

Any woman over the age of 16 who lives in the Glasgow area and can tell us what their needs are.

What is it like?

It is very friendly and relaxed.

You learn what you want!

The learning is carried out at your own pace.

You can learn within the women’s library or in a place that is closer to home (Your local library, or community centre, for example).

You can come for an hour each week, or more.

We can pay for a crèche if you should need it.

You can come for 6 weeks, 6 months (or longer!), as long as you feel you are still progressing towards your learning goals.

You leave our project when you have gained the confidence you require to carry out day-to-day things that involve literacy or numeracy.

There are no tests or exams (but no certificates either!)

Why choose GWL?

You may want to brush up on skills such as report/essay writing for work, long division to help kids with their homework, understanding official letters, etc.

Or you may want to go over the basics such as writing your name and address, handling money, form filling or reading.

If you want to get help with learning to cope with everyday life or as a stepping stone on to bigger things – we are the people!

We offer female tutors only, and can help you to feel relaxed around words and numbers. We can introduce you to other women who feel the same way towards reading, writing and counting, and help you build friendships along the way.

We offer advice and support with progression into other learning opportunities within GWL’s lifelong learning programme or beyond!
