Support GWL
As a charity we rely on the generosity of our donors, sponsors and volunteers to enable the Library to continue growing.
Over the last year, we have achieved a great deal, not least in securing a significant amount of funding towards our new Mitchell Library home and successfully applying for grants to develop new services and projects. However, we still have to raise a substantial amount of money to realise our aim of relocating to our permanent, fully accessible new home at the Mitchell Library.
There are several ways you can help us to raise essential funds to secure the future of GWL.
Women on the Shelf
Women on the Shelf is the new GWL initiative designed to raise essential funds towards our Mitchell Library refurbishment. Women on the Shelf gives you the opportunity to sponsor an individual book, a library shelf or a complete library section in our new Mitchell Library premises, with every penny going towards our building fund, contributing to the one million pounds we need to raise. Become a Friend
You can become a Friend of Glasgow Women’s Library. This offers a great opportunity to support our work, become more involved and meet like-minded people. You will help GWL to continue to develop as it moves and re-launches at its new home at the Mitchell Library. For just £5 per month you will become a valued Friend of Glasgow Women’s Library. The Library has no budget for books, stationery, materials or furniture therefore most of what our visitors see, use and enjoy is donated. Find out more…
Financial donations
Many individual women, groups and sponsors have supported the Library’s growth during its 13-year history. Since we remain a non-core-funded organisation we still rely on the generosity and support of donors and sponsors in order to support even basic aspects of the Library’s day-to-day running.

Donate your time and skills
Some women choose to donate their time, energy and expertise to the Library. Glasgow Women’s Library has always grown with the support of volunteers, and women with knowledge of archiving, databases, D.I.Y. and design all regularly offer their expertise.
We will be posting requests for volunteers with specific skills or for specfic tasks on the Volunteer request page.
Writers and Artists
There are many ways to support our work: membership, donations and gift aid. But did you know that if you are and artist or writer, you can bequeath your royalties to us? Your contribution would help ensure the continuation of this unique library service for and by women, dedicated to celebrating and empowering women.
